Travel is a peculiar sport these days. Did you realize that an entire industry has sprung up within the past few years to help you address the problem of cancelled flights? I thought delays were bad, but then my flight from Rome to Dallas / Ft. Worth was just cancelled one morning with no explanation. To their credit, American Airlines did reroute me and put me up in a decent hotel including meals at a nice Osteria, but there were three hundred of us stranded with no space left on tomorrow’s flight. The airport staff admitted this was the new normal and becoming a weekly occurrence. They gave out phone numbers and reassurance, but modern technology can only do so much to make up for the inconvenience. I guess I was naïve to think a back-up plane could be waiting in a nearby hangar to cover this kind of emergency.
